1% for the Planet x National Park City

1% for the Planet was created in 2002, when Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, realising that businesses are responsible for their environmental impact, pledged to donate 1% of their annual sales—not profits—to environmental organisations.

From this simple idea they started a global movement. Now over 3,400 businesses spanning some 91 countries are committed to protecting the resources that allow them to generate profit and do business.

We’re pleased to say that the National Park City Foundation is now one of the thousands of beneficiaries that are able to accept donations from 1% for the Planet member businesses and you can find our directory listing here.

How It Works

Any business can join 1% for the Planet as a whole company, individual brand or product line. You can explore membership options at onepercentfortheplanet.org/membership.

Once you’ve signed up if you’re keen to help support National Park City then the process is simple:

1. Commit to donating at least 1% of annual sales to environmental organisations

2. Give by donating directly to one or more approved environmental organisations (such as National Park City!)

3. Certify by submitting donation receipts and revenue documentation to certify as a 1% for the Planet member

4. Amplify by using the 1% for the Planet network and certification to inspire businesses and individuals to take action

Supporting National Park City

How you donate is up to you. Each year, at least half of your giving must be monetary and up to one half of your giving can be in the form of in-kind donations, employee volunteer time, or 1% for the Planet Advertising donations.

At National Park City you can combine all of these by being part of our In Good Company programme where you can combine financial support for our Ranger projects, along with volunteering time for your staff team and colleagues.

Your support will help us accelerate the shared ambition and commitments enshrined within our London National Park City Charter and support our network of 130 Rangers delivering a wide-range of local, community-centered environmental initiatives across the capital.

In addition to the knowledge that you are supporting us as a small, independent charity to take our reach even further, you also get to leverage your CSR and ESG storytelling using the 1% for the Planet logo and associated mission statements.
