Adelaide National Park City
Adelaide is the first National Park City in the southern hemisphere
Adelaide National Park City is a movement to improve liveability in Greater Adelaide by connecting people with nature through everyday actions.
A City Reconnected with Nature
Our city is part of a global movement that connects people with each other and nature – for everyone, everywhere, everyday. The global National Park City Foundation awarded Adelaide National Park City status in 2021. This made Adelaide the first city in Australia and second in the world to receive the honour.
3 years of Adelaide national Park City
Adelaide became a National Park City in December 2021, the second in the world. This status recognises Adelaide as a green city that embraces nature and celebrates culture. It acknowledges that many individuals, groups, industries, non- government organisations and all levels of government have worked together for many
years to create a liveable and healthy city and surrounding environment.
Pledge to the Future
When we look into the future, we hope that through the journey of being a National Park City we have:
- Helped to grow a healthy future and improved liveability.
- Collaborated, communicated and celebrated with diverse sectors of the community.
- Inspired and empowered people to take action and make the changes we need.
- Encouraged a multiplicity of voices, perspectives and creative approaches.
- Advanced in the journey of reconciliation with First Nations people and in healing country together.
- Supported the global community of cities in achieving our shared goals.
Acknowledgement of country
Green Adelaide acknowledges Kaurna Miyurna (Kaurna People) as the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters of the Adelaide region, upon which we have the privilege to work and connect.
We acknowledge and respect the cultural, spiritual, physical and emotional connection that Kaurna Miyurna hold with their land, waters and community, and we pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
